The modular surgical hub features twin operating threatre suites and a recovery ward that will focus on orthopaedic procedures that include hands, wrists, feet, ankles, arms, shoulders, carpals, knees, and hips says the DBTH. It is expected to see over 2,000 orthopaedic procedures in its first year for the three partner trusts, which accounts for around 40% of the local orthopaedic waiting list.

Its location at Montagu Hospital, Mexborough, was a strategic move by the Trusts to ensure it is unaffected by disruptions associated with general hospitals, such as the annual winter pressures faced by the NHS.

Manufacturing of the healthcare facility commenced off-site at ModuleCo's specialist manufacturing centre in mid-July 2023 and was then handed over on time in mid-December 2023. The facility was officially opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony in late-December
